Ancient democracy in other places
I’m teaching a course this semester called Democratic Politics and I’ve been been doing some research for the first lecture. The textbook we’re using begins the story of democracy in Ancient Greece around 500BC. I had a hunch that perhaps there were other places on the planet where we might be able to start the story of democracy other than the usual suspect – the west. Read the rest of this entry »
